BERLIN, June 16 (Xinhua) -- The price level of private consumption expenditure in Germany in 2016 was 3.6 percent higher than the average of the 28 member states of the European Union (EU), the Federal Statistical Office reported Friday.

The statistics were based on preliminary figures by the European Union's statistical office Eurostat concerning purchasing power parity and comparative price levels. The price level in all of Germany's neighboring countries, except Poland and the Czech Republic, was higher than in Germany.

The most expensive non-EU countries in Europe are Switzerland (plus 61.5 percent), Iceland (plus 47 percent) and Norway (plus 39.6 percent). Price levels similar to Bulgaria were recorded in Macedonia and Albania at 53.6 and 51.2 percent below EU average, respectively.
