KIEV, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine's conflict-stricken eastern region of Donetsk has received humanitarian aid from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), authorities said Thursday.

An ICRC convoy of 18 trucks delivered a total of 334 tons of aid to people living in the confrontation-affected area, Ukraine State Border service said in a statement on its website.

The relief supplies included 200 tons of food, 121 tons of construction materials and 13 tons of hygiene kits, the statement said.

For more than three years, the ICRC has been helping people in eastern Ukraine, who have been affected by the conflict between the government troops and pro-independence insurgents.

This year, the ICRC plans to allocate a total of 60 million U.S. dollars for the humanitarian operation in the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk.

The United Nations estimated that some 3.8 million residents in eastern Ukraine are in need of humanitarian assistance due to the 38-months-old conflict.
