SKOPJE, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Under stronger export pressure, the general economic activity in Macedonia was stagnating, despite the expectations for economic growth in this period, Macedonian national bank said Wednesday in a press release.

According to the central bank experts, the stagnating economic activity in the first quarter of 2017 creates downward risks for the projection of 2.5 percent GDP growth.

The bank's operational monetary policy committee told local media that Macedonia's exports and personal consumption were on the rise, while investments also provided positive impulse.

However, they said that the central bank here would continue to monitor all economic indicators and developments in the national economy.

In the meantime, they said that future changes in the monetary policy would be largely dependent on trends in the domestic economy and the external sector.

The committee concluded that the existing economic and financial circumstances, as well as the existing risks, showed that the current monetary setup was appropriate. Enditem
