KIEV, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Three people were killed and at least 10 others were injured in a road traffic accident in Ukraine's western Lvov region on Tuesday, authorities said.
The accident took place at around 7:30 a.m. local time (0430 GMT) when a car collided head-on with a passenger bus at the Kiev-Chop state highway, the National Police said in a statement.
The 33-year-old car driver and his two passengers were killed on the spot, while 10 bus passengers were taken to local hospitals, the statement said.
According to preliminary data, the accident happened as the car veered into the opposite lane. Further investigation is underway.
A total of 790 people were killed in about 50,000 road accidents in Ukraine in the first four months of 2017, down 10.1 percent from the same period a year ago.
The main causes of road accidents were careless driving, speeding, driver fatigue and poor road conditions.
