LOS ANGELES, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Active wildfires season arrived at U.S. western state of Arizona with almost 30 fires were burning across the state Monday morning.

Two wildfires of "greatest concern" were the Highline Fire north of Payson and the Lizard Fire in southeast Arizona, according to KTAR News. "Firefighters were working around the clock to stop the 750 acres (3 Square Kilometers) of Highline Fire."

The Lizard Fire grew to almost 15,000 acres (60 Square Kilometers) in the Dragoon Mountain Range and merged with the Dragoon Fire into one wildfire last Friday, according to the U.S. Forest Service. About 30 homes in that area had been evacuated.

Five wildfires were burning on the Coronado National Forest as of last Saturday.

Hundreds of firefighters have been working for days to extinguish the wildfires.

According to the Southwest Coordination Center, Arizona had 828 wildfires and burned 127,307 acres (515 Square Kilometers) so far this year.
