BELGRADE, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Coalition around the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) led by former leader of the separatist Kosovo Liberation Army Ramush Haradinaj, won most votes at Sunday's early parliamentary elections in Kosovo, preliminary results on Monday show.

According to the results published by the Central Election Commission (CEC), the coalition led by Haradinaj, which also gathers the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) -- won 34.06 percent of the votes, based on results from 99.20 percent of polling stations.

The runner-up in the race for the representatives in the parliament of 120 members is the radical nationalist opposition party Vetevendosje (Self-determination) with 27.05 percent, while the third place goes to the coalition around the +Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) with 25.72 percent of votes

The fourth is the Serbian List with 5.94 percent, while remaining participants have all together gathered less than 7 percent.

Haradinaj, former prime minister between 2004-2005 and former leader of the Kosovo Liberation Army wanted by Serbia for alleged war crimes, now the leader of AAK and a PM candidate told news agency Kosovapress on Sunday evening that he is confident his coalition can form the government, and then work to enforce rule of law, reduce corruption and create jobs.

President of Kosovo Hashim Thaci said on his Twitter account that he "expects winners of the elections to form a pro-European government to quickly address the priorities".

Around 40 percent out of 1.87 million registered voters turned out to cast their ballots and choose among 26 political entities -- five coalitions, 19 political parties and two civic initiatives.

The elections were triggered by a motion of no confidence on May 10, which was proposed by the Initiative for Kosovo, a coalition partner of the PDK, over Prime Minister Isa Mustafa's failure to fulfill promises made during the previous election campaign held in June 2014.

Kosovo is a southern province of Serbia, which unilaterally declared independence in 2008.
