ALGIERS, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Algerian counter-terrorism troops on Sunday arrested three armed militants and three elements who provide support to terrorist groups in the province of Constantine, 450 km eastern Algiers, said a statement of Defense Ministry.

"As part of the fight against terrorism and thanks to efficient exploitation of intelligence, a detachment of the National People's Army, in coordination with National Gendarmerie and Police troops managed to arrest three terrorists and three elements providing support to terrorists, in addition to retrieving two automatic pistols, a quantity of ammunition, a vehicle, a laptop, eight mobile phones, as well as a sum of money," specifies the source.

"This combined operation reiterates the vigilance and professionalism of army troops and other security forces, as well as their effective cooperation, especially in this holy month of Ramadan," concluded the source.

Located in a region plagued by unprecedented security and political instability, Algeria faces ongoing terrorist threats.

A few militants affiliated to al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and recently established Daesh affiliate groups are still taking refuge in the dense woods in the north, and remote desert areas near the troubled Libya and Mali.
