BUJUMBURA, June 10 (Xinhua) -- A police officer was Friday night shot dead by one of the policemen under his management at Gasekebuye in the south of the Burundian capital Bujumbura, the police deputy-spokesman said Saturday.

"It was yesterday around 20:30 (18:30 GMT) when the incident took place. Police officer Philippe Minani in charge of Gasekebuye police post went to give instructions to two police agents who were in a bar and then one of them opened fire against the police officer, killing him on the spot," Burundian Police Deputy-Spokesman Moise Nkurunziza said.

According to him, one of the police officer's security guards was also injured on his arm.

Nkurunziza said the two policemen who were in the bar, the police officer's security guards and the bar owner have been arrested for further investigations.

"Early investigations reveal that the policeman who killed the police officer admitted to have shot his chief, arguing that it was self-defense as he is the one who opened fire first against the two policemen in the bar," Nkurunziza said.
