PARIS, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Paris and Los Angeles, two candidate cities for the 2024 Olympic Games, on Friday expressed their welcome to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board's decision to announce the hosts for the 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games together.

The IOC Executive Board unanimously approved of the proposal for awarding two Olympic Games' hosting rights on one occasion in Lausanne, Switzerland, while it was upon consideration during an extraordinary session featuring IOC full members on July 11 and 12.

"Paris 2024 welcomes today's decision by the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee to review bidding processes and also organize an Extraordinary Session of the IOC in Lausanne in July," said the Paris bid committee in a statement. "We believe that the IOC is acting in the best interests of the Olympic Movement and the future of the Games in taking these steps."

"We welcome the IOC Executive Board's decision to recognize two excellent bids from two of the greatest cities," read a statement from Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti and LA 2024 chairman Casey Wasserman.

Despite the decision, both cities' only focus was put on their presentations to IOC members in July.

"Paris 2024 remains totally focused on preparing its presentation to the Lausanne meeting where we will have an opportunity to present to all the IOC Members our proposal for centenary Games of passion and purpose." the bid committee of the French capital said.

"We are proud to represent the City of Light and to promote a plan, in partnership with the IOC, all the key stakeholders and the people of Paris and France, that would deliver Games of wonderful celebration and genuine legacy.

"We continue to work hard to win the support of IOC Members and the broader sports family for a Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games based on that vision," it added.

"With no new permanent venues to build and unwavering public support, Los Angeles is an eternal Olympic city and ideal partner for the IOC. We look forward to sharing our unique story with the IOC membership in July and working together to offer the best path forward for our city and the Olympic Movement's future," Garcetti and Wasserman pointed out.

After the withdrawal of Rome, Hamburg, Boston and Budapest, the IOC, including the president Thomas Bach, thought it an ideal way to also take the 2028 Games into consideration and award two Games to two cities respectively, in an attempt to prevent produing "too many losers".

In May, an IOC delegation, led by the Evaluation Commission chairman Patrick Bauman, finished their inspection in both candidate cities, who have emphasized that their attention was only on the 2024 Games.

The host cities for the 2024 Olympic Games will be released at an IOC session in Lima, Peru on Sept. 13.
