1 dead, 45 injured in bus accident in central Japan

TOKYO, June 10 (Xinhua) -- A car collided with a tour bus on an expressway in central Japan on Saturday, leaving 1 dead and 45 injured, local police said.

The car, heading westward, span and crossed the central divider before hitting the front of the oncoming bus on the Tomei Expressway in Shinshiro, Aichi Prefecture, according to local reports..

The driver of the car was pronounced dead on the site after being trapped in the vehicle for about four hours, while 45 of the 47 people onboard the bus were injured, including six who sustained severe injuries, according to the police.

The expressway between Toyokawa Interchange in Aichi and Mikkabi Junction in Shizuoka prefecture was closed for about five hours due to the accident.
