KOLKATA, India, June 9 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese diplomat on Friday called for more efforts to increase economic interactions between China and East India.

State governments in East India are expected to take more pro-business attitude and policies to attract investment from China, Chinese Consul General in Kolkata Ma Zhanwu said during a release ceremony of a report on investment environment in East India.

The report, titled the Sustainable Investment Possibilities: A Comparison of the Five Eastern Indian States, is completed by the Observer Research Foundation Kolkata in cooperation with the Chinese Consulate in Kolkata.

The report covers the five states in East India - West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, all within the consular district of the Chinese Consulate in Kolkata.

China will continue to support the development of Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar (BCIM) Economic Corridor, which covers East Asia and work closely with the Eastern states, Ma said.

In the coming 5 years, China is expected to invest 750 billion U.S. dollars abroad and will import 8 trillion U.S. dollars of goods and services from other countries and regions, said Ma Zhanwu, noting that more Chinese will come to East India to invest and do business in the years to come.

"The report will further contribute to growth of economic ties between China and India," he said.

The consul general urged the business people, the society and the governments in East India to make joint efforts to create success stories of business to attract more investment from China.

"China-India relations are not the work of giants only," said Ma. "They depend on the goodwill and action of everyone."
