TEHRAN, June 7 (Xinhua) -- The assailants of the twin attacks against Iran's parliament and Imam Khomeini Shrine in capital Tehran on Wednesday were Iranians who had joined the Islamic State (IS), the secretary deputy of Iran Supreme National Security Council said.

"These people had joined Daesh (IS) from different parts of Iran," Reza Seifollahi was quoted as saying by semi-official ISNA news agency.

Six gunmen were involved in the attacks against the parliament and the Khomeini Shrine and all were killed in the operations.

These people were cooperating with the IS in the areas under the control of this group in Syria and Iraq, and following the recent losses of the IS in both countries, they had returned to their countries, Seifollahi said.

At least 13 people were killed and 43 people were injured in the twin attacks in Tehran on Wednesday.

According to the reports, the IS has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
