TALLINN, June 6 (Xinhua) -- The Pan-European dialogue on Internet governance (EuroDIG) 2017 Tuesday tackled here on public policy issues related to internet governance and the future of digitalization.

Addressing the opening session, Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid noted that the exponential growth of the use of information technology and the Internet has changed the societies so much.

"The Internet affects our cultures, our economies, the way we think and communicate, the way we govern our states and handle international relations," Kaljulaid noted.

Estonia has managed the balance between security and freedom by providing a network of public and private e-services based on a secure online identity, she added, pledging to develop a digital Europe during Estonia's EU rotating presidency in the second half of 2017.

The visiting Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite said the Internet and digitalization could make the governance more transparent, more competitive and more democratic.

Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg also delivered a speech in the afternoon session on internet governance and cyber security.

Themed "DIGital futures: promises and pitfalls", the two-day conference of EuroDIG 2017 attracted around 650 participants from 40 countries and stakeholder groups as an open platform for informal and inclusive discussions on public policy issues related to Internet Governance, said the organizer.
