BEIRUT, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon on Tuesday foiled a terror bombing attempt in Beirut's southern suburbs, the National News Agency (NNA) reported.

Lebanon's Minister of Interior and Municipalities Nouhad Mashnouk said during meeting with UK Ambassador to Lebanon Hugo Shorter that "thanks to the key coordination between the General Security and the Information Branch of the Internal Security Forces (ISF) we managed to foil a terrorist bombing that was to target the southern suburbs of Beirut."

"This is an evidence of the high professionalism of the Lebanese security services and the paramount importance of cooperation and coordination among the various security services" he stressed.

The southern suburbs of Beirut are the stronghold of the Shiite militant party of Hezbollah who is fighting the extremist groups in neighboring Syria alongside the Syrian legitimate forces.

On another hand, Mashnouk said that the Ministry's various departments are proceeding with their preparations for the forthcoming legislative elections, awaiting the final formula of the new election law and the Parliament's setting of the election's date.

He stressed that the setting of election's date will be determined by the House of Parliament.

Mashnouk offered condolences to Shorter on the fallen victims of the recent London terror attack.
