PARIS, June 6 (Xinhua) -- The French foreign ministry expressed its wish on Tuesday at a press briefing that the current tensions in the Gulf region be "resolved through dialogue."

"France is attached in the Gulf region as elsewhere to the progress of regional integration which is a guarantee of stability," the ministry said.

"We are standing by the countries of the region in the necessary intensification of the fight against terrorist groups, their support, and their financing. We cooperate with them in order to put an end to crises in the region and bring peace, security and stability," the ministry said.

According to the same source, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian will receive his Saudi Arabian counterpart on Tuesday and will speak with his Qatari counterpart by phone. On Wednesday, he will meet with the representative of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi for the Franco-Emirate strategic dialogue. He will also travel to Egypt on Thursday where he will meet President Sissi and the Egyptian foreign minister.

Saudi Arabia and its allies have severed diplomatic ties with Qatar in an escalation of power struggle in the Middle East which endangers the region's political balance and hinders global efforts to end conflicts in the region.

Riyadh accused Qatar of supporting extremism and destabilizing the region, accusations denied by Qatar.
