MOSCOW, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Russia has played no role in the making of the diplomatic row between Qatar and the Gulf countries and it will not interfere in the matter either, Russia Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday.

"It is an issue of bilateral relations between those states. We do not interfere in these decisions, although we are suspected of being behind any development in the world. But I assure you it is not true," Lavrov said at a press conference.

Moscow is convinced that there may be all kinds of contradictions between countries and it has never rejoiced at difficulties emerging in relations between other states, he said.

Lavrov said Russia was interested in maintaining good relations with all, especially in the region where a main thing was the "concentration of all efforts aimed at fighting international terrorism."

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Egypt said earlier on Monday that they decided to cut off diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorism. Qatar has rejected the accusations, calling them "unjustified" and "baseless."

Libya, Yemen and the Maldives also severed ties with Qatar on the day.

The Kremlin said earlier in the day that Russia hoped the diplomatic rift would not affect the global efforts aimed at fighting terrorism.

"Russia, as an active participant in the global process of fighting international terrorism, hopes that this situation will not in any way affect the general spirit and determination in the struggle," Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti news agency.
