Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkey launch joint military exercises

TBILISI, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey on Monday kicked off a joint military exercises code-named "Caucasian Eagle 2017" at the military base of Vaziani near Georgian capital Tbilisi.

According to the Georgian Defense Ministry, special forces from the three countries will jointly practice tactical, fire, engineering and other special tasks in the exercises. Ground and air components will both participate in the 10-day drill.

This is the third trilateral special forces drill by Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. Turkey had hosted the previous two exercises.

On May 23, the defense ministers of the three countries held the fifth trilateral defense ministerial meeting in Batumi, the second largest city of Georgia.

During the meeting, the three ministers discussed the conducting of joint military exercises and adoption of security measures for regional peace. A joint computer-assisted staff-level exercise to be held in September was also announced during the meeting.
