Malta's PM says Labour Party wins general election

VALLETTA, June 4 (Xinhua) -- The Labour Party has won the general election, gaining a mandate to govern for a second term, Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat confirmed on Sunday.

"It is clear that the people have chosen to stay the course," Muscat said, adding that the people had chosen positivity over negativity.

He added that after a divisive political campaign, his priority is to bring about unity and invite all to work together to achieve even better results for the country.

Whilst the votes are still being counted, local media is also reporting the Labour Party has won the election by a considerable majority, as much as 34,000 votes.

The reports ay the Labour Party is set to win 54.9 percent of the vote, compared to the Party Nationalist (PN)'s 43.7 percent.
