PARIS, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese women's tennis players Zheng Saisai and Xu Yifan took on different paths to secure last 16 berths with their partners in the doubles event at the 2017 French Open here on Saturday.

Zheng, in partner with Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu, had to come back from one set down to beat Abigail Spears and Katarina Srebotnik 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.

"We failed to find out rhythm at the start and lost the first set very quickly, while focusing more on our service games from the second set," said Zheng, who was still troubled by a knee injury.

Zheng will meet her Chinese teammates Duan Yingying and Peng Shuai in round of 16.

"There is too much uncertainty in the doubles, and it's all about how we perform in the match. We need to attack our opponents' weakness," commented Zheng.

Xu and Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski, the No. 9 seeds, only needed 55 minutes to win 6-1, 6-2 against Madison Brengle and Anna Smith.

There was also disappointment for Chinese players in the second round, as Liang Chen and Wang Qiang lost to Chan Hao-Ching of Chinese Taipei and Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

"We did poor on some crucial points. But for me, we performed much better than what I expected," said Liang.
