MEXICO CITY, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Tropical storm Beatriz left at least two people dead, one person missing, and 300 homeless in south Mexico's Oaxaca state before weakening into a "remnant low pressure area" on Friday.

The storm brought heavy rains late Thursday, damaging mud walls that collapsed and killed a woman and a 14-year-old girl in the central mountainous communities of San Carlos Yautepec and San Marcial Ozolotepec, respectively, according to local officials.

On Friday, rescue workers continued to look for the teenager's brother, who was also believed to have been buried under the rubble, state officials said.

A river overflowed in the town of Santiago Astata, in the state's Isthmus of Tehuantepec region, damaging homes and displacing some 300 residents.

The rains damaged some infrastructure, with officials identifying 22 sites where highways along coasts, mountains and isthmus sustained damage.

A 214-meter-long bridge over the Tequisistlan River is also in need of repair, following the rains.

Some 10 flights were cancelled Thursday, forcing nearly 900 tourists in the resort of Huatulco to spend an additional night. They were expected to be able to leave Friday.

Oaxaca Governor Alejandro Murat told local media that officials were still assessing the damage and tallying the number of victims, but that he would declare a state of emergency to speed up aid.

The risk of life-threatening flash floods in Oaxaca continues, due to rain caused by the low-pressure area, which is moving northwards, according to the National Meteorological Service (SMN).
