NANNING, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region reported a new human infection of the H7N9 bird flu virus during the period from May 26 to June 1, local health authorities said Friday.

The new case brings the number of infections to 26 in the region in 2017, including 13 fatalities.

H7N9 is a bird flu strain first reported to have infected humans in China in March 2013.

H7N9 virus is not transmitted from person to person. People should avoid contact with birds, and only buy certified poultry.
