MAPUTO, June 1 (Xinhua) -- President of Mozambique Filipe Nyusi launched on Thursday in Maputo a 6 billion U.S. dollar project, including an installment of a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility in Cabo Delgado province, northern region of the country.

Located in the Area Four block at Rovuma Basin, the project of Coral gas field is a joint venture by energy giants sponsored by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), the Portuguese energy company Galp, the Korean Kogas, the Italian ENI and the Mozambican ENH.

Nyusi said the project reflects the government's commitment to facilitate business and its tireless searching for solutions to overcome challenges hindering an integrated and inclusive growth of the country.

"This is the first project of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa and the second worldwide, with this, Mozambique officially enters the route of gas commercialization," said Nyusi.

Following the positive results found from the feasibility studies, CNPC President Wang Yilin believed all partners are confident on the economic future of the project.

"The development of such a gas field is much conducive to promoting the economic prosperity, social development and people's well-being of this country," said Wang.

Not only will the project become CNPC's first ultra-deep-water natural gas and FLNG project in east Africa, but the largest unit project of a Chinese company in Mozambique.
