LISBON, June 1 (Xinhua) -- The 87th Portugal's book fair kicked off on Thursday at Lisbon's Eduardo VII park, focusing on children to mark the International Children's Day.

Activities for children at the fair include circus shows organized in partnership with Lisbon's circus school Chapito, face-painting, and a mural to be illustrated by children. Forty restaurants will be offering gourmet food.

Present at the fair were over 100 authors including British writer Paula Hawkins, who wrote best-seller The Girl on The Train, and Chilean author Luis Sepulveda who wrote The Story of the Seagull.

Organizers expect at least half a million visitors to attend the fair, which attracted 480,000 people last year.

The fair will last until June 18 with an investment of 900,000 euros (about 1 million U.S. dollars).
