WARSAW, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Katowice, southwestern Poland, will organize the UN climate summit in 2018, Polish Environment Minister Jan Szyszko said on Thursday, according to Polish Press Agency.
Szyszko announced, in the presence of Patricia Espinosa, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, that the December 2018 UN climate summit will be held in Katowice.
The climate conference will be held for the third time in Poland.
"Poland wants to use its Presidency at the COP (from late December 2018 to end of 2019) to present climate policy as a tool for sustainable development," Szyszko said.
The UN climate summit, the so-called COP (Conference of the Parties) is an annual global conference during which climate change policy is being negotiated. Poland has twice organised the COP -- in 2008 in Poznan, western Poland and in 2013 in Warsaw.
