BEIRUT, May 31 (Xinhua) -- The British ambassador to Lebanon Hugo Shorter stressed Wednesday his country's continuing support to Lebanon and its Internal Security Forces (ISF).

In a statement by the British embassy, Shorter said following meeting with ISF Director General Maj. Imad Osman that "I am very pleased to review with Major General Osman our strong partnership with the ISF as this institution seeks to ensure the people of Lebanon have the modern, effective and trusted police force that they deserve."

According to the statement, Shorter discussed the British Policing Support Project within the framework of a Memorandum of Understanding for 13 million British pounds (16.8 million U.S. dollars) agreed in June 2016.

The funding supports refurbishing police stations, spreads best practice in community policing, and fully incorporates human rights into the ISF's training program with 8,000 officers graduating last year.

They also discussed the ISF's new strategic plan, aimed to reform the ISF in the next five years, the ISF's community policing strategy, and the ISF plan to transform into a police force responsive to community issues across Beirut.

"Our work with the ISF, which started in 2008, is supporting General Osman's vision to build a compassionate, accountable, human-rights focused police force that is responsive to people's needs," Shorter added.
