TIRANA, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Two new contingents of Albanian peacekeepers departed Wednesday for Afghanistan as part of NATO's Resolute Support Mission in Kabul and Herat, the Albanian defense ministry said in a press release.

During the send-off ceremony, Minister of Defense Mimi Kodheli praised commitment of Albanian peacekeepers in Afghanistan over the past 15 years and their contribution to the global fight against terrorism.

"As part of the Alliance with which we share values of freedom and democracy, Albanian Armed Forces will not limit only in expressing solidarity with the terror victims, but will actively contribute to the fight against terrorism," Kodheli said.

The two new contingents will operate in Kabul under the command of Turkish Armed Forces in Heart and the Armed Italian Forces.

The defense minister also said that after a successful engagement of the NATO Ready Reaction Force, Albania was setting out the first company.

"They successfully participated in NATO's drill 'Trident Juncture-15' in Capo Teulada, Italy and in other dislocating drills in Poland or Germany," added Kodheli at the ceremony. Enditem
