TEHRAN, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the Wednesday terrorist attack in Afghanistan's capital Kabul, which left scores killed and hundreds wounded.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi expressed his country's condolences in a statement to the Afghan government and nation over the fatal terrorist attack, reported Tasnim news agency.

He added that Iran will always stand by neighboring Afghanistan in difficult situations, the agency reported.

Qasemi further expressed hope that political initiatives and negotiations among Afghani political groups will prevent future recurrence of such inhumane actions.

The powerful car bomb explosion in Kabul's central diplomatic district on Wednesday also damaged the Iranian embassy in Kabul.

The explosion shattered the Iranian diplomatic mission's windows, damaging its ceiling tiles, the report said.

At least 80 people died and over 350 others were injured in the explosion, according to Afghanistan's Public Health Ministry.
