TEHRAN, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Guardian Council of Constitution, the supreme legislative body of the country, on Tuesday approved the results of the recently finished presidential election, official IRNA news agency reported.

"The Guardian Council has approved the results of the 12th presidential election," the spokesman of the Interior Ministry, Salman Samani, was quoted as saying.

Samani added that the council had received and examined reports and complaints about the election process and ultimately verified the poll's overall result, according to Press TV.

Also, the spokesman for the Guardian Council, Abbas Ali Kadkhodaei, on Tuesday confirmed the "validity" of the results, saying that "the presidential election was concluded with the high turnout of the people," semi-official ISNA news agency reported.

Kadkhodaei stressed that some "irregularities" on the election day did not have any impact on the overall results of the election.

On May 19, Iran's incumbent President Hassan Rouhani won the country's presidential election by garnering 57 percent of the votes.
