Dragon Boat Festival holiday witnesses more train passengers

BEIJING, May 30 (Xinhua) -- More passengers travelled by train during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, with nearly 9.2 million passenger trips being made Monday, up 8.6 percent year on year, China Railway, a state-owned company, said Tuesday.

The company added 542 trains Tuesday, when about 11.6 million passenger trips are expected.

It has forecast that the total railway passenger trips would reach 44.6 million between Saturday and Tuesday, up 10.5 percent year on year.

The festival is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of a year according to the Chinese calendar, which falls on May 30 this year.

Traditions of the festival include racing dragon boats and eating Zongzi, glutinous rice dumplings and fillings wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves.
