BRASILIA, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's Superior Electora Court (TSE) President Gilmar Mendes said Monday that the Court "is not an instrument for the resolution of political crises."
Mendes told the press that a hearing on June 6 on whether the winning Dilma Rousseff-Michel Temer ticket in the 2014 presidential elections received illegal campaign financing will be "judicial and not political."
"Do not come to the court to say 'you must resolve a crisis we have created.' Solve your own crisis," explained Mendes.
Dilma Rousseff was elected the president of Brazil from 2011 until her impeachment and removal from office in August 2016, and her presidency was succeeded by Temer.
The TSE has received strong pressure to remove president Temer from the office, especially after a recording was published earlier in May in which Temer was allegedly involved in a bribery case.
The Supreme Court has opened an investigation into the president for obstruction of justice and passive corruption. However, Temer has refused to resign, stating he has done nothing wrong.
