MADRID, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Manuel Pellegrino said on Monday that he would not be remaining as the first team coach of Spanish Liga Santander side, Deportivo Alaves.

Pellegrino made his announcement at a press conference held by the side from the city of Vitoria less than 48 hours after leading them out in the Spanish Cup final, where they were defeated 3-1 by FC Barcelona despite a brave display in the Vicente Calderon Stadium.

The Argentinean, who also guided Alaves to a mid-table position in their first season after returning to the top-flight in Spain, refused to give any reasons for his decision, but said it was not because of family reasons (his family still live in his native Argentina) and explained he had told club directors he was leaving before the end of the season.

Following his season with Alaves had been linked with jobs at Celta Vigo and Sevilla, but former Barca assistant coach Juan Carlos Unzue was named as Celta coach on Sunday, while his predecessor in Vigo, Eduardo Berizzo, is expected to replace Jorge Sampaoli at Sevilla as the summer managerial merry-go-round continues.
