MOGADISHU, May 29 (Xinhua)-- UN Environment Executive Director Erik Solheim is due in Somalia on Tuesday to assess the extent of the prevailing drought and its environmental causes and impacts, the UN mission said on Monday.

While in Somalia, Solheim will hold talks with senior government officials on broad range of environmental issues, including supporting initiatives by the Somalia government in environmental protection in the context of climate change.

A statement from the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) said Solheim will also discuss widespread deforestation, and supporting moves towards renewable energy.
