WARSAW, May 28 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition of Intangible Cultural Heritage of China's Hubei province ended here on Sunday.
The three-day event, held on May 26-28 in Warsaw and Torun, the country's capital and a city in northern Poland respectively, aimed to offer visitors an opportunity to gain an insight into the fragments of the long and abundant Chinese history and culture.
At the opening ceremony, Vice Minister of the Department of Publicity, Hubei Committee of CPC, Guo Zhong said that this exhibition would bring the wonderful, rich and profound Hubei culture closer to the Polish people, therefore deepening the cultural exchanges between Hubei and Poland, and promoting the contacts and cooperation of the two countries.
Marek Suski, Vice-President of Polish-Chinese Parliamentary Group, also said that the Chinese culture was of a vast and rich history, the cultural exchange between the two countries in recent years was abundant and diverse.
He expressed the hope that following the implementation of the "Belt and Road" initiative, such events might contribute to promote the economic and trade cooperation between Poland and China.
Located in central China, Hubei was also called "Chu" in ancient China as today's Hubei was part of the powerful State of Chu during the Zhou dynasty (1046 BC-256 BC). The Han dynasty (206 B.C.-220 AD), the second imperial dynasty of China following the Qin dynasty, also established the province of Jingzhou in what is now Hubei province.
The Chu-Han Culture is believed one of the most important parts of the Chinese culture.
During the event, exhibits and live skill shows allowed the audience to appreciate the unique charm of this culture. And the viewers were especially excited about the live performances of shadow play, with many stopping by the plastic booths, where artisans used various techniques to create both fine and beautiful works.
Director of Hubei Provincial Center for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, Yan Ling told Xinhua that out of various aspects of Hubei's intangible culture, 10 were selected for this exhibition, including Chu style lacquer decoration technique, flower art, cloth collage, carved paper-cut, dough molding, shadow play, straw collage and others.
According to the event organizers, Hubei enjoys four items on Human Intangible Cultural Heritage List, 127 items on the list of Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
The exhibition was organized by the Hubei Provincial Center for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and the China-Poland Economic and Culture Association; and sponsored by the Department of Publicity of Hubei Committee of CP, the Circles of Art Foundation of Poland and the Department of Culture of Hubei Province.
