KHARTOUM, May 28 (Xinhua) -- The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), an affiliate of the Sudanese army, on Sunday said it defeated a rebel group in Sudan's North Darfur State, official SUNA news agency reported.
"We have managed to defeat the rebel forces at Ain Siro area of Kutum locality in North Darfur State," Adam Saleh, RSF spokesman, was quoted as saying.
He said the defeated forces were part of a group that fled recent battles at Wadi Hawar area and then tried to infiltrate into Chad on the border with Darfur region.
"We have inflicted heavy loss among the rebels. We have seized great number of military vehicles and destroyed many others," he noted.
On May 20, the Sudanese army said that it repulsed two separate attacks by two armed groups in east and north of Darfur region, adding that the two groups moved simultaneously from Libya and South Sudan.
The Sudanese army has been fighting three armed groups in Darfur: the Justice and Equality Movement, the Sudan Liberation Movement and the Sudan Liberation Army.
