BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Aimed at increasing the level of financial literacy in the country, Brunei marked this year's National Savings Day on Sunday.
The theme of this year's celebration, "Financially Literate Generation", reflects the goal to increase awareness on the importance of savings, financial independence, and make individuals and households -- particularly students -- more financially savvy, said Hajah Nurhuaida Fakhriah binti Haji Damit executive assistant director of the Corporate Communications Unit of Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD), Brunei's de facto central bank.
According to AMBD's financial literacy survey, only 51 percent of Bruneians nurture the habit of saving.
To celebrate the National Savings Day, financial literacy roadshows with "interactive games on financial and currency management" had been organized to educate secondary school students in all four districts of the sultanate.
