General de Gaulle's tomb vandalized

PARIS, May 27 (Xinhua) -- The tomb of French General Charles de Gaulle, founder of the Fifth Republic of France, was vandalized Friday night in the commune of Colombey-les-Deux-Eglises in the French Grand East region, the local town hall announced on tweeter.

Local media say two individuals entered the cemetery at around 5 p.m. local time, while one of them climbed to the grave and toppled the stone cross.

The gendarmerie has opened an investigation into the case.

Born in 1890 and passed away in 1970, Charles de Gaulle was a French general and statesman. He was elected as the president of France in 1958 and resigned in 1969.
