CANNES, France, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Austrian-born U.S. actor Arnold Schwarzenegger said the world needs people's power and start act from the local level, so as to fight for clean environment and get rid of pollution and greenhouse gases.

The best way is combining public, private and non-profit sectors to cooperate so you can tackle the problem from different angles, Schwarzenegger told Xinhua in an interview in Cannes.

Schwarzenegger was attending the Cannes Film Festival as producer and narrator of the documentary "Wonders of the Sea 3D".

The documentary tells about a journey from Fiji to the Bahamas, where Jean-Michel Cousteau and his children Celine and Fabien embark on a voyage to discover the ocean and learn more about the current threats that put the ocean at risk.

Schwarzenegger confesses that when he was a kid he didn't care about the environment problems "but now there are important things like to do something good for the collectivity, how to help the world, my neighborhood, my state," he said.

The former governor of California didn't plan this movie originally. Then, "my nephew was in the entertainment business and he told me to watch it because it had inside a big environmental message. So I saw it, I felt in love with it," he said.

According Schwarzenegger, global environmental movements have a bad habit to point the finger on others and say "this is bad, that is bad".

"On the contrary, this movie says that the glass is half full, rather than half empty, so let's go and protect it," he added.

Asked about whether the documentary was a message for U.S. President Donald Trump, Schwarzenegger clarified that he didn't want this movie to be a message for one single person.

"There are a lot of people around the world that don't believe in protecting the environment. But in one way or the other, we don't worry about that because we want to concentrate on people's power. I think this movie will reach a lot of people that are going to be committed in protecting the ocean," he said.

He continued, "Then we have to protect the environment because there are 7 million people dying every year because of pollution. But remember that one man can't stop anything."

Asked about the political change in U.S., Schwarzenegger said, "You never know how the wind is blowing in politics. I think this time it blew in a way that people were fed up about what was going on therefore they voted for an outsider.

"We also want to become an outsider coming in thanks to real people passionate for the environment also in a future prospective."

On Trump, "I just wish President Trump good luck. When he does well, we all do well. Democrats and republicans both should support him when he takes good decisions.

"When it comes to environment, I hope we can make him understand that we (people who support and promote environmental protection) are on the right track," Schwarzenegger added.
