COTONOU, Benin, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Benin applied for four historic heritages to be registered with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), officials told Xinhua Friday.

These are the "Slaves' Route" in Ouidah city, the traditional "Tata Somba" house, the traditional "Gaani" dance and Pendjari National Park.

Ange N'Koue, Benin's minister of Culture and Tourism, said inclusion of the four items into UNESCO's World Heritage List will help revive the country's tourism industry.

The minister added that the application is aimed at developing the heritages, and that if it results in success, the country's tourism revenue will increase from 2.6 percent to 10 percent of its gross domestic product in the coming decade.

Pendjari National Park covers 480,000 hectares (4,800 square km) and is a rare conservation site of diverse animal and plant species on the West African savannah.
