KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Four Taliban fighters including a key commander Mullah Mohammad Noor Haqani were killed after unmanned plane struck the Taliban position in Chardara district of the northern Kunduz province on Friday, district governor Zalmai Farooqi said.

"Acting upon intelligence report, drone attack was conducted against a Taliban hideout in Zadran locality of Chardara district at 03:00 a.m. local time today. As a result Taliban key commander Mullah Mohammad Noor Haqqani along with three of his armed bodyguards were killed," Farooqi told Xinhua.

Noor Haqqani had served as commander and head of military commission of the Taliban fighters in Kunduz province and his physical elimination could prove a major setback to the Taliban militants in Kunduz and adjoining areas, the official added.

The official further stated that Mullah Mohammad Noor Haqqani, besides involvement in organizing attacks on Afghan forces, was also involved in killing three foreign soldiers and injuring two others in Kunduz province in the past years.

Taliban militants are yet to make comments on the report.
