CHINA-HAINAN-WUZHISHAN-PORCUPINE BREEDING (CN)

Liu Fucai (C) discusses breeding skills with villager Wei Yangdi (L) and Xing Jianliang at his porcupine farm in Fanyang Township of Wuzhishan City, south China's Hainan Province, May 24, 2017. The 28-year-old Liu established a breeding and cultivation cooperative after graduation from high school. Two years ago, he tried to breed six porcupines and got a good return. In 2016, Liu went to Taoyuan County of central China's Hunan to learn porcupine breeding skills and built a porcupine farm covering 300 square meters in his hometown. Twenty-seven families in poverty joined in the cooperative and bred porcupines together. At present, there are some 100 porcupines in Liu's farm. Villagers in poverty come to work and learn breeding skills in turn. It is expected to bring an extra profit of more than 4,000 yuan (about 583 U.S. dollars) for each family of the cooperative at the end of this year. (Xinhua/Shen Hong)
