ACCRA, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Ghana's Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey on Thursday emphasized the role of youth in Africa's development and unity.

The foreign minister called on African leaders and policy framers to focus their collective attention on unleashing the youth towards national development and ultimately continental unity and prosperity.

She said the relentless quest for African unity to which the leaders are committed is crucial to the Africans' collective survival and progress because the goal of African Unity underpins relations between AU member states.

She was speaking at a flag raising ceremony and photo exhibition in Accra to mark the Africa Day.

On May 25, 1963, Africa made history with the foundation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) which brought the continent together.

Since then, the May 25 has been celebrated widely across the world particularly in Africa to signify Africa's identity and unity.
