NEW DELHI, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the country's longest river bridge -- the Dhola-Sadia Bridge -- in the northeastern state of Assam on Friday.

Launched a decade ago, the three-lane, 9.15-kilometre-long bridge that has been built over Lohit river, a tributary of the Brahmaputra river, is among a series of infrastructure projects which Modi has fast-tracked since assuming office.

The brige links Dhola to Sadia in Assam, and once open will improve road connectivity in the region as the only means to cross the Brahmaputra at this location till now has been by ferry.

With the northeastern India being a high-seismic region, the bridge was built using state-of-the-art equipment, including imported hydraulic rigs, and seismic buffers have been provided in all its 182 piers, officials said Thursday.
