URUMQI, May 25 (Xinhua) -- More than 60 countries and regions will attend the 2017 (China) Eurasia Commodity and Trade Expo in northwest China's Xinjiang region in August, an increase of 10 percent, according to organizers.

Among them are 36 countries along the Belt and Road. It is the first time for certain countries and regions to be present at the expo scheduled for August 24-28 in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The expo has an exhibition area of 62,000 square meters, an increase of 48 percent from 2015. It has exhibition areas for textiles, agricultural products, food, tourism, sports and cultural industries as well as commodities from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

An estimated 10,000 buyers will be attracted to the event, which features the construction of the Silk Road trade platform and successful economic cooperation.

"Xinjiang will accelerate its construction as the core zone of the Silk Road Economic Belt and enhance connectivity in policy, infrastructure, trade, finance and people with countries along the routes," said Huang Sanping, director of the expo organizing committee.

Since the expo began in 2011, contracts signed between Chinese domestic companies have had a total value of 1 trillion yuan (145.5 billion U.S. dollars), with foreign trade deals worth nearly 30 billion dollars.
