MACAO, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Macao's retail sales for the first quarter of 2017 increased by 12 percent year-on-year to 16.59 billion patacas (about 2.07 billion U.S. dollars), the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) said recently.

Watches, clocks and jewellery accounted for 23.2 percent of the total retail sales, followed by goods in department stores, adults' clothing, leather goods and goods in supermarkets, the statistics showed on Wednesday.

The sales of motorcycles, parts and accessories also increased substantially by 49.6 percent, due to the government's subsidies plan to eliminate two-stroke motorcycles.

About half of the retailers anticipated a stable sales volume in the second quarter, while 46.9 percent of retailors forecast a decrease and 5.6 percent expect an increase, the DSEC said.
