MOSCOW, May 24 (Xinhua) -- About 81 percent of Russian respondents approved of Vladimir Putin's work as their president, an independent survey shows Wednesday.

About 46 percent of the respondents are content with Dmitry Medvedev's performance as Russian prime minister, according to the survey conducted by Levada Analytical Center, a Russian non-governmental research organization.

The polling institute surveyed 1,600 people in 48 Russian regions between May 19 and 22.

Putin, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov were the top three politicians that the respondents trusted the most, the results showed.

According to the poll, some 56 percent of the respondents believed the affairs in the country are proceeding in the right direction, up from 51 percent in the previous month.
