KAMPALA, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Canada, Oman and Singapore made wins at the 2017 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cricket League Division 3 in Uganda on Tuesday.

Hosts Uganda failed to stop a hungry Canadian team at the Lugogo Oval losing by 66 runs. After an interruption of rain, the ICC officials reduced the ovals to be played before Canada battled first to put on 234/8 in 42 ovals.

Man of the match Rizwan Cheema picked 91 runs, while Nitish Kumar had 43 for the Canada team.

Later in the afternoon, Uganda tried to chase but one of their opening batsmen Arthur Kyobe only managed 2 runs, while Deus Muhumuza and Mohammed Irfan picked 30 and 31 runs respectively.

Uganda settled for 168 runs from 38.2 overs.

"We did not bat well and need to improve in the other matches," Uganda's captain David Arinaitwe Karashani told Xinhua after the game.

At the Kyambogo Oval, Singapore beat Malaysia by 7 wickets with 82 balls remaining.

Malaysia batted first to put on 121 in 35.3 overs, while Singapore chased to score 123/3 in 31.2 ovals.

In Entebbe, 40km south of the capital Kampala, it was all tension packed as Oman beat the United States by 4 wickets with 20 balls remaining. United States opened the batting to put on 180/7 in 43 overs, while Oman led by man of the match Aqib IIyas chased to collect 184/6.

Action continues on Wednesday when Uganda face Singapore in Entebbe, while Canada battle Oman at the Lugogo Oval, while Malaysia take on United States.

The best two teams will qualify for slots in Division 2 and also make it to the next round of the 2019 World Cup qualifiers.
