MOSCOW, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) on Wednesday started a six-day anti-terrorist exercise in Crimea, RIA Novosti news agency reported.

About 2,000 people, including combat swimmers and paratroopers, participate in the two-stage drill.

The FSB drill is expected to involve aircraft, vessels, armored vehicles and drones, according to the report.

The drill will be conducted in Russia's territorial waters off the western coast of the Crimean Peninsula in the vicinity of the Ukrainian border.

Crimea left Ukraine and re-joined Russia in 2014 following a local referendum. Kiev believes the peninsula is illegally annexed and remains part of Ukrainian territory.
