YANGON, May 24 (Xinhua) -- A total of eight more rural health centers in Chin and Shan states of Myanmar will emerge next year, official media reported Wednesday.
The project is currently underway by three Millennium Development Goal Fund (3MDG Fund) as part of its healthcare improvement programs in remote areas.
There are 74 existing centers in Yangon, Mandalay, Ayeyawaddy, Magway and Sagaing regions as well as in Kayah and Shan states.
All rural health centers are funded by 3MDG from Australia, Denmark, European Union, Sweden, Switzerland, the Britain and the United States and implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
The health centers will be equipped with delivery room, emergency and waiting rooms, examination rooms, incinerator and placenta pit and staffs will also be provided with accommodation, water tank and drug storage facilities to provide health services for over 400,000 people in hard-to-reach locations.
The health centers will serve main focus on maternal, newborn and child health care to reduce the mortality rate of mothers and babies during delivery in rural areas which is higher than in urban areas.
The project has started in 2014 with the aim of promoting the health of rural people and reducing inequality in access to healthcare services.
