PARIS, May 23 (Xinhua) -- French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday expressed compassion and solidarity with Britain after a suicide bomber killed at least 22 people at a concert in the northern British city of Manchester late Monday.

Macron will hold a phone conversation with British Prime Minister Theresa May and will be kept informed in real time on the developments of the incident, said a statement from the president's office.

"The president of the republic will pursue with the government, and with Britain, the fight against terrorism," it said.

In a separate statement, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian condemned "with great firmness this odious act."

"The United Kingdom and France are united in the face of terrorism," Le Drian said, calling for global efforts to fight terrorism.

The French top diplomat also pledged "every effort" to help British authorities to identify the victims.

A total of 22 people, including children, were killed and 59 injured in the suicide terror attack at a concert of U.S. singer Ariana Grande in Manchester on Monday night, police announced Tuesday.
