TOKYO, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Tuesday as a suspected terrorist attack at a pop concert in the city of Manchester in England, coupled with caution ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump's budget proposals later in the day, made for a circumspect day of trading.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 65.00 points, or 0.33 percent, from Monday to end the day at 19,613.28.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 2.43 points, or 0.16 percent, to finish at 1,565.22.

By the close of play, air transportation, insurance and metal product-related stocks comprised those that declined the most, and advancing issues outpaced declining ones by 978 to 904 on the First Section.

Trading volume on the main section on Tuesday came to 1,543.76 million shares, rising from Monday's volume of 1,467.41 million shares.

The turnover on the second trading day of the week totaled 2,006.3 billion yen (18.07 billion U.S. dollars).
